My Connection with the Queen

stockvault-bottle-with-red-wine-and-glass1176001This week I felt close to royalty. I visited her Majesty's wine merchant Berry Bros & Rudd. That sounds very grand, which of course it isn't because at the end of the day I want reasonably priced wine. I did, in fact visit their Bin End shop which is part of their big warehouse in Basingstoke as I happened to be passing. It was not my first visit nor will it be my last. There is no minimum order and the shelves were packed with fantastic wines at very large discounts. However, the main reason for writing about it is that the advice you get from the wine advisers that walk the floor and serve you, is truly magnificent. Nothing is too much trouble and every time I visit I come away with some wines that are new to me and which are excellent. They always have at least 6 wines on taste and at the moment they have a whole table of spirits and liqueurs. If you live within driving distance then I recommend a visit, and soon.

Have been there and had similar experience ie being allowed to taste before buying! Would recommend highly as I would a wine warehouse over the Channel...at Ouistreham (Portsmouth-Caen route)...warehouse is about 200m from ferry terminal and you can buy in single bottles or in cases.....and they allow tasting. Might save you going out of your way to a Hypermarket if this continental route is your holiday one
